Karmaura - Calmly Welcoming New Life

Blessingways

Binding Thread Ritual

Blessingways are woman centred celebrations. Beautiful circles held as an alternative to or an extension of the traditional baby shower, focusing on surrounding, celebrating and honouring the mother to be as she goes through the creative process of bringing new life into this world.

The intention is to bring people together in community to offer gifts of the spirit to the mother to be in contrast to traditional baby showers were the unborn baby is showered in gifts. The common thread among Blessingways is the use of ritual to celebrate and acknowledge the momentous impact of bringing a new baby into the world. Family & friends offer their love and support for the woman undertaking a major life transition to become a mother.

Blessingways are a sacred ritual of the ‘Dine’ Navajo people. When using the term Blessingway to describe this evolving ceremonial concept, let us remember to respectfully acknowledge & appreciate it’s sacred Dine heritage as our source of inspiration.

These ceremonies are usually held in the last trimester of pregnancy and each blessingway can be tailored to the wishes and energy of the mother to be! Organised through a friend, family member or the expectant mother. Blessingways can be held at the mum to be's home, a family/ friend's place, or in a private place in nature.

Ceremonies are normally 2-3 hours in length and involve rituals to welcome all into circle, a platform to share stories and bestow wisdom to the mother to be, unique blessings for mum and bub, delicious healthy food to share & always a safe space for all. A platform for joy, tears and laughter. A gathering to remember.

Contact Alana via contact page if you would like to host a Beautiful Blessingway & we will be happy to work with you, a family member or friend to design & tailor make your special celebration.

Forward leaning inversion in pregnancy has many be Forward leaning inversion in pregnancy has many benefits to guide our babies in a more optimal position. It releases key ligaments in the lower uterine segment which allows more space for baby to move & snuggle in & brings balance in our pregnant bodies.

My couch is a bit low (in first pic), I could have my elbows a little more closer to the couch then I do in this pic making more of a steep ‘A’ shape, but gosh this felt good. I did it every day during my third trimester. Holding for 3 breaths a little longer if it felt ok. Tuck the chin to allow the neck to be an extension of the vertebrae. Then when I would rise out I would stay high on my knees for three breaths & then job done.

Always use a helper to guide you in & help you out of pose, don’t practice if you have hypertension, glaucoma or have had eye surgery, high amniotic fluid or risk of stroke. Always use comfort as your guide if it doesn’t feel good don’t do it.

Even though so much of her birth plan had changed, she gave birth exactly the way her body told her to...on hands and knees. Her partner then reached down and passed her baby through her legs.

And then this beautiful moment happened.

Her providers not only supported this, they encouraged it. Such an incredible team at one of our local hospitals.

Upright birth happens in all birth locations! Even hospitals! And I think we need to see it more. I've heard from so many educators that most teenagers believe birth only takes place in hospital beds, on your back. In reality, we give birth in all sorts of positions. One isn't necessarily better than the other - but I do think magic often happens when the birthing person gets to take the lead.

“It went really well. Thanks you so much for your advice, you helped us heaps and heaps!!! The raspberry breath blowing lol helped me through my surges aswell as the bearing down. Ben was amazing at reading out my affirmations during established labour and really kept me sane with the shaking of the apple tree. It was all my saving grace!!” Xo

Love hearing how this beautiful couple worked together as a team, with amazing supportive caregivers as well. Biggest congratulations on your gorgeous girl✨

Welcome gorgeous Nina Faith ✨

I wish for all women to feel my like this, like superstars after their birth experiences. Ash was amazing during her pregnancy. She knew where her inhibitions laid & did the preparation & research to best prepare her mind & body. She was so well supported, through making informed choices. She radiates empowered fresh Mumma vibes, with shades of fatigue, I love that! 🧡
