Karmaura - Calmly Welcoming New Life

The Positive Birth of Ella Bladin Hospital Birth

in Birth Story, Karmaura on 10/09/21

Ella 1 hour young

When we fell pregnant for the first time I did a bit of research and was choosing between two courses however after my phone conversation with Alana I felt a connection with her and I just knew she was the person who would help bring our baby into the world. She was so down to earth and having had 2 kids before, I could actually hear them in the background while on the phone which was so nice, and pregnant with her third at the time, her knowledge and understanding of birth and how the body works was incredible. It felt right and exactly what I wanted!

Then when I met her in person that connection was still there she was so open and welcoming and not only was the course so very helpful it was inspiring and empowering and Alana help made the energy in the room feel so comfortable and relaxed.

My partner as well gained so much information from doing this course it really was so beneficial for him and we had so many tools to use together to prepare ourselves before and during labour.

Leading up to my labour Alana stayed in touch and still talked me through a few things especially having had her third baby by this time.

First day of labour at home

The labour – WOW I don’t think we could have done it with Alana’s help! I had a 36 hour labour (8 hours active) without any drugs and at times yes it was one of the hardest things I have ever done, I always very quickly and easily brought myself back into a relaxed state of mind through my breathing. There were so many little tools and techniques that stuck in my head that I remembered and tried throughout the entire labour. At times I felt like giving up but my husband was the BEST birthing partner thanks to Alana and her course. Having him and my tools to stay calm I made it through. It was truly the most empowering, incredible, amazing experience of my life!

Jimbo put the affirmations up he really was amazing so were all the staff at Mareeba! I could write so much more. Like I think my labour was so long because of the fear of Jimbo not making it home in time for it… I went into labour 8am Sunday and he arrived 9.30pm Sunday night :/

I also think the fear of me not being able to birth in the bath didn’t help as every time I got out to do some lunges or something I would freak out that I might have it on land… I did in the end anyway haha because I finally let go of the ‘idea’ of having her in the bath!

Also OMG make sure you pee during labour people!!! I didn’t go to the toilet for at least 8 hours so bubba wouldn’t  descend and I was constantly drinking coconut water! I couldn’t pee and I was 9cm (my first check from my midwife that I allowed) and she could feel my full bladder so they had relieve it for me in the end! Still so in awe of the whole experience though it was the most empowering moment of my life!

I can not thank Alana enough for helping us to have such a positive beautiful birth we are so grateful and can’t wait to do a refresher for the next one!

💫The toilet is dilation station💫 . 🌟 You 💫The toilet is dilation station💫
.
🌟 You naturally relax your pelvic floor and perineum while sitting on a toilet
🌟 You are more used to being relaxed in the bathroom
🌟 You can turn the lights down and even straddle the toilet backwards to help make you more comfortable and relaxed (use pillows)
🌟 You are working with gravity
🌟 You are opening your pelvis, which gives baby lots of room to navigate through the birth canal

Amen to that. If you find yourself in the self c Amen to that.

If you find yourself in the self comparison spiral during the tender time of postpartum remember not only is post partum a time of depletion after growing and birthing your baby, all your hormones are trying to leverage out. Your body is different now it has expanded and grown a human and birthed that soul. Physically, mentally and emotionally you have shifted.
Your pregnancy was unique
Your birth was your own, and
Your baby has there own uniqueness as well!
Your experience is uniquely yours! No one else’s. So why should we expect everyone to look the same. There is no one size fits all box for postpartum. Build, shape, rock or completely blow up your own box, make your own shape and strut your own path ❤️ Your body is a beautiful portal for life ✨

And here she is. Back on earth after drifting between galaxies she never knew to exist. Alone again in her body, but with her new baby that she so powerfully journeyed to the stars to collect.

Peace, joy, laughter and oxytocin pulsated through the room, whilst we gazed at her in deep admiration.

Watermelon in hand. Gentle yet victorious smile. Midwife sister softly stroking her hair. Baby comforted by dads protective arms, his tiny body still attached to what was once his life source . Cosy, safe.

The sun setting behind them, signaling to all, a time for rest and reflection. Enveloping them in warm rays of the greatest love. Charlie’s first sun set.

This. Is. birth.
